Crash Alert: 3 killed, 3 seriously injured in downtown Omaha crash
OMAHA, NE – Three people, including two children, lost their lives early Friday due to a fiery two-vehicle crash in downtown Omaha, according to 3 News Now.
The triple-fatal collision occurred in the area of South 10th Street and Douglas Street just before 1:30 a.m.
Investigators said a 33-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT eastbound on Douglas Street when the Jeep rear-ended a 2017 Subaru Outback as the Subaru was turning left onto Douglas Street from the southbound side of South 10th Street.
The impact sent both vehicles to the east, causing the Subaru to collide with a light pole and for the Jeep to hit a tree and overturn. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames.
First responders arrived on the scene to find two children deceased inside the Jeep. The driver of the Subaru was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep and a 38-year-old man who was the front-seat passenger, as well as a child from the same vehicle, to Nebraska Medicine. Officials said the three patients were later transferred to a specialized burn unit at an out-out-state hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway as speed and alcohol are being considered as potential factors. Based on the findings, charges may be pending following a review by the Douglas County Attorney’s Office.
