Crash alert: 3 injured when wrong-way driver slams into semi-trucks on I-80
PAXTON, NE – Three people were injured Wednesday night when a wrong-way driver collided with two trucks on Interstate 80, News Channel Nebraska reports.
The accident took place near mile marker 145 on I-80 in Paxton at about 8 p.m. The Nebraska State Patrol said the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was going west in the eastbound lanes of the interstate and crashed into two semi-trucks.
The three drivers were taken to Great Plains Health. Two of them, the Tahoe driver and one of the truck drivers, were then flown to University of Nebraska Medical Center with serious injuries.
One of the trucks was hauling cattle, three of which were killed. The NSP said alcohol was believed to have been a contributing factor in the wreck.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were shut down for about three hours while the wreckage was being cleared.
