Crash alert: Sheriff’s office identifies 2 men killed in accident near Bennington
BENNINGTON, NE – Two victims of a car accident near Bennington last Thursday have been identified by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
This is an update to a previous story.
The sheriff’s office said the two men killed in the wreck were 39-year-old Michael Gilkerson of Omaha and 56-year-old David Mackey of Snyder, Nebraska.
An investigation showed that Mackey was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on Highway 36 near North 126th Street sometime before 6:50 a.m. when he crossed over the center line. The Toyota collided head-on with a Dodge Stratus driven by Gilkerson.
Mackey was declared dead at the scene, while Gilkerson died later after being taken to Nebraska Medical Center.
