Crash alert: Man sentenced for causing fatal Sarpy County motorcycle crash
PAPILLION, NE – A man has been sentenced for a fatal motorcycle accident in Sarpy County last August that authorities said was a case of road rage.
According to KETV, 36-year-old Michael Burch of Plattsmouth was sentenced to three years each on the charges of motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident without rendering aid.
Prosecutors said Burch caused the death of 47-year-old Jody Emmert when he rammed his van into Emmert’s motorcycle in the area of Highway 75 and Highway 34. They said the incident happened when Burch became angry that Emmert had applied his brakes while Burch was following him too closely.
Burch pleaded no contest in July to the two charges, while a third charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Along with serving the prison time, his driver’s license will be revoked for 15 years.
