Crash alert: Driver sought in Lincoln hit-and-run that killed pedestrian
LINCOLN, NE – A search is underway for a driver accused of leaving the scene following a crash that killed a pedestrian in Lincoln.
According to the Lincoln Journal-Star, a judge has issued a warrant for the arrest of 30-year-old Hani Hadgi. Prosecutors said Hadgi was driving a GMC Terrain Sept. 22 when he struck 41-year-old Victor Melendez II in the vicinity of 12th Street and Belmont Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood.
According to investigators, Hadgi drove off the street, onto the grass, hit Melendez and then continued driving before coming to a stop after hitting a street sign.
The warrant was issued after Hadgi did not show up in court Thursday to face a charge of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury or death.
