Crash alert: Douglas County deputy hurt in crash blamed on distracted driver
OMAHA, NE – A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Friday morning in a crash blamed on a distracted driver, according to KETV.
The accident happened in the vicinity of Dodge Street and 228th Street sometime before 8 a.m. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a driver going westbound looked away from the road while trying to find a phone he had dropped, and crashed into a patrol car that was parked on the side of the road.
The deputy was reported to have been seriously injured, and was transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center. The patrol car sustained significant damage in the crash.
Dodge Street was closed to westbound traffic following the incident. Authorities said the accident served as another reminder to motorists about the hazards of cellphone use while driving.
