Crash alert: Woman pleads no contest to charges in fatal Hastings crash
HASTINGS, NE – A woman pleaded no contest in connection with a fatal crash in Hastings last year, KHGI reported.
28-year-old Ashley Woitaszewski of Shelton entered the plea in Adams County District Court Wednesday to charges of motor vehicle homicide-reckless/willful and first offense DUI.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2020. Authorities said Woitaszewski was behind the wheel of a Ford F350 pickup truck going north on Cedar Avenue when she failed to stop at the dead-end intersection with Forest Boulevard. She crashed into the retaining wall of a creek running through Heartwell Park. A passenger in the pickup, 37-year-old Derek Lindstrom of Grand Island, was killed in the crash.
A judge found Woitaszewski guilty of the charges and she will be sentenced on May 10.
