Crash alert: Driver charged with leaving scene of crash north of Norfolk
NORFOLK, NE – A man was arrested after authorities say he fled the scene of a car accident north of Norfolk last week, reports the Norfolk Daily News.
27-year-old Landen Batenhorst was allegedly driving a stolen car when he crashed in the area of First Street and NE Industrial Highway Friday sometime before 2 p.m. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, Batenhorst ran a stop sign while driving a Nissan, swerved to avoid a semi-trailer and went through a barbed-wire fence.
The NSP said he tried to get away on foot along First Street, but was tracked down in a field not far from the crash scene and was taken into custody. Batenhorst, a Norfolk resident, faces several charges including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an auto accident. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
