Crash alert: Man killed when van crashes into train near Grand Island
GRAND ISLAND, NE – A driver died after his vehicle crashed into a Union Pacific train near Grand Island Wednesday night, the Norfolk Daily News reports.
Deputies from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in the area of U.S. 30 and Schimmer Road after the incident was reported shortly after 10:10 p.m. Investigators determined that the driver of a Dodge van was going west and hit the train. The driver, identified as 65-year-old Paul Arndt of Alda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said Union Pacific workers had been moving some train cars across U.S. 30 from the south side of the highway from the north. None of the workers were injured in the crash.
