Crash alert: Authorities identify young man fatally struck by pickup in Sarpy County
SPRINGFIELD, NE – Authorities have released additional details regarding a crash that killed a young man in Sarpy County early Sunday morning, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.
This is an update to a previous story.
The victim has now been identified as 19-year-old Gage Nech of Gretna. He was driving a Ford pickup truck with two 18-year-old passengers from Gretna, Briar Campbell and Garett Plambeck.
Investigators with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office determined that Nech stopped in the area of 132nd Street and Main Street near Springfield, got out of the vehicle with Campbell, and the two began to wrestle.
Plambeck put the truck in drive without realizing Nech and Campbell were on the ground towards the front passenger side, investigators said. The right front tire rolled over Nech, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident and said it appeared that alcohol was a factor.
